Now the Apple TV is now shipping, consumers should expect to have their unit in hand by the end of the week. Wired’s writer Rob Beschizza has compiled 5 reasons why he thinks the Apple TV will rule, and 5 reasons it’ll suck.
For those who are unaware, the Apple TV automatically grabs the digital media on your computer (directly from iTunes) and makes it wirelessly available for you to enjoy on your TV.
Two positives from the article:
1. It’s currently the only easy way to get stuff locked away in iTunes streaming to a TV set. Bam. Simple as that.
2. It’s sexy. It just looks nice. Networkable media-slurping boxes can look rather industrial, but this sleek slab of brushed metal will be good for everyone who isn’t a rackmount nerd or Apple-averse.
Two negatives from the article:
1. It’s $300. Damn. And no free cables!
2. If you don’t use iTunes-DRMed media, it offers nothing new. There’s no reason to bother if you have something similar and your movies and such are not gotten via Apple.
Personally, I feel the Apple TV is a revolutionary product in itself, the positives outweigh the negatives by a large margin. I cant wait to get my hands on one and put it to use.
