Imagine a day when your notebook reminds you of meetings, plays MP3s and provides flight departure and gate information all while being powered down. No matter where you go, you can check for Wi-Fi connectivity, read the news, and plan your next move. You are informed, organized and prepared for anything.
We had the chance to check out PortalPlayers exterior LCD display, designed for Windows Vista machines, back at CES, and it now seems that they are making some headroom, striking deals with Asus and Acer notebooks. Windows SideShow displays data and pictures, and runs other useful mini-applications that cater to your lifestyle. Since Preface is so power-efficient, it can run for hundreds of hours without draining your notebook battery providing Always On access to your data and multimedia content. We were actually told that it can run for about 14 more hours after your laptop battery is dead!
Click more to learn what you get at your fingertips as well as an up close pic of the player on a laptop.
So what does it give you? Information at your fingertips. You can access your contacts, email, calendar, weather, images, music, movie times, alters, travel itineraries, addresses, games, and much more. This was very very cool; maybe one of the greatest inventions we saw at CES. We are happy to see PortalPlayer striking deals with more manufacturers. it has its own processor, LCD display, and controls (and depending on the setup wifi as well). It can be integrated into laptops, keyboards, remote controls, mice, and more.
