A new Wi-Fi record has been set for the longest distance. A researcher in Venezuela has been able to send his signal 238 miles from one research facility to another, both of which are in the Andes Mountains. The researcher used some off the shelf parts and some specialized equipment that was provided by Intel.
We should be happy that at least someone is capable of using Wi-Fi for an acceptable distance, but due to the fact my Wi-Fi will sometimes cut out just being downstairs or on the patio it is hard to be excited about a new distance record.
