If you’ve been waiting all day to hear more about the Microsoft Zune, you’ve come to the right place. Thanks to Gizmodo, we now have a good understanding of the layout of the buttons and menus. Unfortunately for all of you iPod lovers out there, the Zune will not have a scroll wheel (at least in this iteration of the pre-production units), probably because they don’t want it to be classified as an iPod rip-off. The part in the center that looks like a scroll wheel will actually be 4 buttons, and most likely a button in the center for easy navigation.
They’re also saying that the GUI and menus look very similar to Windows Media Center with transparent-white fonts on dark backgrounds and an alphabetical scrolling feature. There’s also a grip on the back (most likely rubber) that will allow you to maintain your grip while you turn it sideways to watch video. The Zune will also include magnetic headphones (so they’re not dangling everywhere when they’re not on your head), an FM receiver, and an FM transmitter. And currently, Microsoft has disabled the Wi-Fi and “Capture Settings” (not really sure what this is) menu items for now.
