As the fever pitch builds, tents are erected outside AT&T stores, lines form at Apple stores, Apple has a lot riding on this. Can you imagine a world where the iPhone is a flop? What will that do the company? The shareholders? Faith in Jobs?
Those questions are apparently making the anxious water cooler rounds in Cupertino as Apple execs vent their worries that the iPhone can’t live up to the expectations we’ve built up for it. What is plan B?
Plan B turns out to be upgrading the phone in the field. Apple knows that they can push software changes out to the phones without (hopefully) any kind of recall or bad product on their hands. But that doesn’t seem to be easing any of the sweaty palms at Apple. What if plan B fails?
Apple believes it won’t. Insiders say 3rd party apps are coming (and will funnel through with an “ok” stamp) from Apple. Keeping control over what gets on the phone could be the saving grace to keep Apple away from any alternate plan than success.
Buckle up folks, its going to be a bumpy ride.
