When you think of Bluetooth headsets a price of $5 would rarely, if ever come to mind. Well to be fair, based on the quality of some you may think they are worth that, but until now I have not seen one that actually retails for $5.
While the $5 costs is not for an actual production headset, but instead includes the BlueVox2 QFN chip, along with all of the components that would be needed to create a Bluetooth mono headset mounted on a four-layer printed circuit board.
CSR has announced the BlueVox2 which is mono headset solution. They claim this is the “world’s lowest cost advanced Bluetooth headset” and in turn “offers low power consumption and zero cost noise reduction.“ It also boasts a whopping 15 hours of talk-time and allow for a connection to not one but two cell phones, which means you can now share one headset between two phones.
The headset solution is currently being sampled and not yet available, but is expected to hit the market during Q3 2008.
