Apple has conned over a million people to watch its video on last weeks SDK announcement.Ok, maybe “conned” is a bit harsh. Apples video was up after most of us had already written about it and spilled the beans on what the video held. But that didn’t stop the 1 million plus see Steve and Co. talk about the SDK for themselves. Apple has got a lot of excitement here, but how do they wish to play this? By getting the gamers hyped. Check out this graph of what Apple is holding up as excitement for the SDK:
Apple says today that over 100,000 developers have downloaded their SDK. Many compare this SDK to a gold rush opportunity. Let’s look at the exciting quotes they added to the press release issued today: Gaming :3 quotes from Gaming companies Enterprise: 2 quotes from Enterprise oriented companies Bloggers: 1 quote from a blog for iphone solution provider Consumer: 1 quote from a company that wants to sell you wallpapers
Add those to the companies Apple trotted out at the announcement and you get: 5 Gaming 3 Enterprise 1 Blogger 1 IM 1 Medical 1 Consumer
Clearly, Apple wants to spur gaming development for the iPhone/touch platform. Could portable gaming be Apple’s next big thing? For a device that is tied to one carrier and presumably has to stay that way to get any approved Apple application, that is a lot of folks playing with it.
