Zune 80 shortage being reported

by Robert Nelson on Nov 17, 2007 at 05:42 PM

Microsoft Zune 80 Black

It seems the Zune 80 has become very hard to find with a shortage affecting both brick-and-mortar and online stores alike. Microsoft is blaming the shortage on high demand, however others are speculating that a shortage may have been due to less units being manufactured in an attempt to focus on the new Zune 4 and 8 flash models. A Microsoft source has stated that they are “six weeks behind production schedule” which is due to a problem at the manufacturing plant this past summer.

The stores that are being affected with limited or no current supply are not expecting any new Zune 80’s until after Christmas. Its usually the item that cannot be found in the stores that becomes a hot holiday item. Is the new Zune destined to be the Wii of the Holiday 2007 season? If so hopefully they will be able to get back on track and keep a solid inventory, unlike the Wii.
