Yahoo reportedly will launch a new website called “Shine” today. The website features content from the best writers and bloggers in women’s publishing. This could very well be another social network but no, the website is considered as a vertical similar similar to Yahoo Sports, Finance, News, or Entertainment.
Shine is the first site from Yahoo to target an audience, more specifically the women, because Yahoo sites usually are niched. Since studies show that more females blog more than males do, Shine could become a success unlike the Green and Tech sites from Yahoo. Yahoo said that there are almost 40 million women Yahoo users ages 25 to 54 that could benefit from this new website.
Publishers and sources of Shine’s content will include fashion websites Epicurious.com and Style.com and magazines Good Housekeeping, Glamour, InStyle, Cosmopolitan, Harper’s Bazaar, and Women’s Health. Right now, there are 8 editors, all women, tasked as editors of various Shine sections. Shine is more than just a fashion blog as the ladies of Shine describe the new website. The ladies wrote:
This isn’t the first website of its kind since Glam.com and iVillage are already attempting to be serious, fun, and stylish at the same time. However, Yahoo Shine’s partners and editors make all the big difference.
