Without warning, VoIP service SunRocket shuts it doors
Internet phone provider SunRocket has closed it doors and shut down business without any advance warning to their customers. SunRocket, who was a competitor to Vonage had over 200,000 customers making them the second largest US supplier for VoIP. Current customers who call in a being greeted with a very simple message stating “We are no longer taking customer service or sales calls. Goodbye.” Reuters made attempts to contact SunRocket via email and phone and both went unanswered. There has been an unconfirmed report from the New York Times that an unnamed source has “been briefed on the company’s status as saying that SunRocket had ceased operation and plans to move its customers to one or more companies”.
I am sure more on this will follow, of course if my home service was poor or not working I would not want to wait around for another company to pick up my service. Currently (as of this writing) the SunRocket website is up and makes no mention of any trouble. Its a shame to see a company close its doors like this. It almost makes you want to stay away from the “smaller” companies in fear of something like this happening. What a way to find out you no longer have any home phone service. SunRocket had a $199 per year deal, let’s hope that those customers will be able to get a credit for the unused portion.

on July 24, 2007 at 11:40 AM - LINKSunRocket is no more in the list of VoIP providers. I have decided to subscribe Lingo Voip Service. They have new plans to rescue SunRocket customers such as monthly $21.95 promotional calling plan and annual $195 calling plan. Their calling plans have numerous added features such as voicemail, call forwarding, call waiting, redial, 911, 411, and local number portability. Moreover, they have the ability to receive voicemails as attachments to email.
on August 6, 2007 at 08:31 AM - LINKI had switched away from SunRocket just before its sad demise because of its poor voice quality. I then signed up with Lingo whose voice quality is good at the moment. And I hope this quality will remain as such.
