Windows XP will live on until May 30, 2009

Despite the January 31 deadline, Microsoft has announced they will continue to offer Windows XP licenses until May 30, 2009. The extension is said to be in direct relation to customer demand, and had it been kept would have surely created a surge in Windows XP pricing. Of course, even with the extension, the resellers will still have to place their orders before the end of January, then they will be able to take delivery at any time up till the May 30 deadline.
It should be interesting to see how long these deadlines continue to get pushed, many are suggesting that it will continue until we see Windows 7 officially released. Additionally, Microsoft also has the Windows Vista “downgrade” policy which is set to expire on July 31, 2009, and netbooks will continue with XP until June 2010. In short, it looks like Windows XP will continue to be readily available for some time in the future.
