Who’s on Crack in Tech: 1.16.08
While still feeling the aftershocks of CES, we’ve got lots to catch up on. Besides desperate moves at CES, crazy releases and demos, the news this week has been equally nutty. Can’t we all just fantasize about the Palm Pre for the next 6 months in peace? Sheesh. Fine, we all know “they” won’t stop doing things to distract us, like these:
- Apple goes back on their word - again
- 3D will save the economy
- Buying music on a card
- Exec. Editor Doug Berger has the hots for Einstein

You guys at Apple read what you put out right? Apple lets in duplicate core-functionality apps.
I think it is great some half-baked browser apps are now let into the app store. I saw more iPhones running GPS navigation directions last week than I thought possible or prudent. Yet, I saw an awesome app like Newber, get shut out of the app store (still pending). What gives Apple?
At least have the “pits” to stick to your rules. Sure, sure we all admire companies that can change with the times but you set these rules like a year ago. If you are not going to follow your own rules, why have them? We could all use some Apple Anarchy for a while. Like a recess, let everything and anything into the App Store for like 3 days. Then pull them again. Do it and I’ll be one of many putting in for vacation time during these Apple Anarchy days.
And no, I am not jailbreaking my device to do this. It just doesn’t feel right (read: I am a wuss).

3D is the next “New” thing
I must have sat through one too many Keynotes and press events with men in suits telling me how great 3D is. Heck even James Cameron (of Titanic fame) piped up with a short video saying how much he loved 3D. Iyaz wrote about how much he liked the 3D Sony showed us.
It is a sham. It gives you headaches and you look ridiculous in those glasses. Any tech that forces the consumers to adorn themselves in a new fashion item has an uphill battle. Good luck trying to make your funky glasses look as cool as Apple managed to make white earphones…
Slotmusic: everybody wants some?
Call it evolution. Stats abound that music has gone to digital downloading. Consumers have left buying music on a disc for downloading track by track. Sandisk aims to put that genie back in the bottle.
Often the subject of Gadgetell CES HQ arguments (usually started by me saying we should be the only blog on Sandisk’s side on slotmusic, just to stir the pot). Iyaz got his hands on Akon’s latest music on a SD card that no one wanted to touch, like a hot potato. If you can’t get bloggers to take your stuff for free, it is time to think again.
“Berger, would you quit staring at Einstein and check out these booth babes.”
I say robots are good for one thing: dancing. Exec. Editor, Doug Berger disagrees. He was inexplicably fascinated with the robotic head of Albert Einstein. Doug set to work not just posting about the legless robot but created a photo gallery to show his appreciation. What is next, Zune-guy-like tattoos?
I am sure this pleases Mrs. Berger but come on Doug, quit complaining to me that Albert isn’t returning your phone calls.
That is my list. What did you see that has you considering contacting a company’s family and friends for an intervention? Let us know in the comments.
