VUDU cuts price in half, will be permanently priced at $149

Vudu has announced a new, and this time permanent lower price for the set-top-box.  We have seen numerous sale prices lately, including one that dropped to $99 during this past holiday season, but this new price tag of $149 will remain intact.  The Vudu HD price was cut in half, having dropped from $299.  As for availability, customers will still be able to order one online, as well as pick one up directly from big-box retailers such as Best Buy.

In addition the the Vudu HD, the lower prices are also being passed onto other Vudu products.  The Vudu XL has been lowered from $999 to $499, the VUDU XL2 has been lowered from $1,299 down to $799 and the Vudu Wireless Kit is now just $79.

According to the press release announcement, this new pricing comes as a result of Vudu “reaping the rewards of success in the retail channel over the holidays,” but at the same time I cannot help but think this new price is more what people would be willing to pay and that this was more of a decision based on need.  Either way, it appears this time the customer will benefit, that is, as long as Vudu does not disappear.
