Some newly surfaced rumors are calling for Verizon Wireless to begin offering a contract free service shortly. If the details are accurate it looks like customers both new and old will be able to sign up for service as early as this Sunday (September 21) and will not be tied into any long term contract. Keep in mind that while it all sounds good so far, there will be some rules that go along with this deal.
To begin with users will be required to pay an activation fee, a credit check will still be required and of course you will have to pay full retail for your phone of choice. Which all things considered that does not sound that bad to me. Personally, I tend to switch phones often and end up paying full retail anyway. Some good points are that this contract free service will be available with any of Verizon’s current voice and data plans and the fact that should you come to dislike Verizon you can leave at any time.
Although this is still unconfirmed at this point, it does make you think. Assuming you were not a current Verizon Wireless subscriber, would a move like this be enough to convince you to make the switch? Of course, it is important to point out that while this sounds new and exciting, other major carriers such as Sprint and AT&T have already been offering contract free service.
