Up close and personal with the LG Watch Phone

At yesterday’s LG press conference, the company announced plans to launch their touch-screen Watch Phone later this year.  You may remember seeing this guy at last year’s CES as well.  Today, we got to take a closer look, and are liking what we saw.  We do however have a few concerns about the performance of the device.

Do you need to hold the watch up to your face to talk on the phone?

Apparently not.  The company claims if you hold your arm down at your side, the microphone will pick it up, and you will be able to hear the person on the other end.  I am very skeptical of this, but until I try it, I’ll cautiously take their word for it.

Is a watch really supposed to replace your mobile phone?

I suppose the answer to this one is yes since the device is a full-featured phone.  It seems a little silly to me to do everything on a screen as small as a watch, but if they can make the experience usable, then it does have possibilities.

Don’t know if anyone has noticed, but
the China-made V2 has provided folks
with an excellent, light and cheap watch
phone for a long time now.

And it has a keyboard on the bracelet,
which the LG does not, along with
    Bluetooth capability.

You shouldn’t have to hold the darn
thing near your head—if it has
Bluetooth you can just use a BT
    set with it.
