The Pirated: Symantec’s Norton AntiVirus

One of the popular applications being pirated today is Norton AntiVirus.  It looks like everyone knows the importance of having anti-virus protection on your computer.  If you aren’t protected, you can expect to get viruses, spyware, malware and more attacking your network.  Norton AntiVirus from Symantec is a popular choice, but can prove costly if you pay the annual $35.00-$80.00 subscription fee.  Let’s UnPirate Norton AntiVirus.

AVG Free

AVG Free

AVG has provided free anti-virus protection to millions of users worldwide without the requirement of signing up for a subscription.  Although you can pay to upgrade for identity theft protection, the basic version protects against both viruses and spyware.  Recently, the company added new features like Safe Surf.  This element prevents you from going to potentially dangerous websites while browsing the internet.  The only downside of the application is that the company does not offer technical support for the free version.

Avira AnitVir does provide phishing protection, but the free version does not protect against adware or spyware.  However, it does have some good extras that many free programs don’t have, like protection against hidden rootkits and expensive dialers.  Although AVG only has an English language version, AntiVir comes in German and French as well.

PC Tools

PC Tools AntiVirus Free Edition has probably the most comprehensive free antivirus coverage for basic network users.  The software not only scans your computer, but also your email for potential threats.  You can also schedule virus scans, so that you can be away from your computer while the application is working.  It also has an automatic update system to make sure that you are protected against the most current threats.
