Tyra Tech Nutraceuticals: Cheese, chocolate that can kill tapeworms
Now when you eat something and someone says, “it’s good for you,” they may be talking about something rather unexpected; namely, the killing of nasty tapeworms and other nemodes. Tyra Tech, a green technology incubator, is developing a cheese that will not only be nutritious and delicious, but also kill a major health problem for more than 2 billion people living in rural Africa, Asia and Latin America. So even if you or I don’t suffer from tapeworms, many people do, and this new idea may well make their lives much more pleasant and healthier than before.
According to Tyra Tech CFO, Keith Bigsby:
“The company has signed a deal with Kraft Foods to bring these functional foods to market. Kraft will pay the company engineering fees and, if products come out, royalties from sales.”
Tyra Tech represents part of a growing trend for “nutraceuticals,” that is, companies that produce foods that can provide enhanced nutrition or medicinal properties. Although they will most likely be sold as “foodstuffs” and “medical products,” they are being marketed as “lifestyle products”.
Another company, Attune Foods, has come up with a shelf-stable chocolate energy bar containing probiotics, the healthy active cultures found in yogurt. It costs less than $2 and although some say there is a slight after taste, it otherwise swallows just like the real thing.
Green is the word for Tyra Tech, also working on bio-pesticides, which are all natural and made from microbes. They are safer for humans and can be sprayed closer to the time harvest than conventional pesticides.
Here’s to others who will follow your green and important lead, Tyra Tech!

i wonder how they do that. i mean, tapeworms get into our body and now they produce food to kill them. i just wish they don’t come expensive.
