Trade shares of blogs with BlogShares
It looks like another web 2.0 product has emerged from the darkness, they seem to be coming out of nowhere with various different ideas and solutions for getting attention of the buzz world. You’ve all heard of fantasy football and probably more recently fantasy politics. Now there is fantasy blog share trading from BlogShares, you get fake money to trade shares of various blogs across the network. It has the entire atmosphere of a self contained little community about trading shares of blogs.
So far there doesn’t look to be a whole lot to it except the bare bones idea of holding shares of blogs and getting bloggers to register various blogs in order for them to have a large directory of blogs as well as a medium to have the top 100 blogs (and more) based on share price.
It is a pretty ingenious way to get people to register their favorite blogs though, it seems like it is mostly about marketing on the back end and on the front end gives bloggers a place to talk and live there bloginess (I coined the term blogginess, remember that) ideals.
Although it appears they are working towards reasons to have shares of a blog that make a little more sense there is a bit of a hierarchy to the web site that gives the bloggers that visit a reason to compete between themselves and not just web sites competing for the number one spot.
The web site has karma points that you get from suggesting web sites, categorizing web sites and other wise feeding them with marketing data. They have yet to have a way to spend your chips and karma points that really make any sense. But if you are a competitive person it gives you a place to be just that in the blogging community.

The problem with it is that it’s too easy to game the system. People just look at what’s upcoming on Digg or Slashdot and then buy shares. The next day the price runs up when the site gets a ton of traffic. It’s like the equivalent of insider trader. Rather then it being a good way to speculate on who is writing great content, it’s instead impossible to win without cheating.
on November 4, 2006 at 11:25 AM - LINKThe game is corrupt. The Index Managers vote for and against ideas, depending on how they wish to manipulate their value, and the BSEC brings bogus charges against players who’ve annoyed their friends, or done a hostile take over of their stock.
And for this they charge you 15 dollars.
They are also exceptionally hostile to non-white players, especially if English is their second language. They’ve openly taunted foreign men trying to learn English. They’ve also been verbally abusive to players expressing frustration with the uneven enforcement of rules. They’ve verbally attacked one family, a mother-daughter team, because the mother (caregiver to the disabled daughter) played on the daughter’s behest and specific instruction. (the daughter could not reach the keyboard- she’s in a wheelchair.)
That game is BAD NEWS. I’d avoid it.
on March 17, 2007 at 02:11 AM - LINKSounds like the slander campaign against Blogshares has come this way too.
Its a really great game but sometimes people get caught cheating at it. Most will accept being caught but others seems to go overboard about it.
I’ve been playing for several years and found everyone there to be very friendly and helpful.
on March 29, 2007 at 02:51 AM - LINKThe web is filled with people who hate blogshares. Most of them were NOT caught cheating.
I remember that I’d only been at blogshares for a month when one of the staff made fun of a player for his broken English. I didn’t take screenshots of that particular runaround, but I’ve taken several since.
Players like Nexy and Rantz are vicious to non-english speakers...Rantz was their lead index manager, and Nexy is now in their BSEC (a faux police arm...it’s true purpose is NOT to help the game but only to help friends of the staff...or to intimidate/humiliate anyone daring to criticize the bullies and racists in the game.
For god’s sake don’t waste the 15 dollars on a premium membership.
on March 29, 2007 at 03:20 AM - LINKThis racism thing cracks me up. At least one member of the BSEC is african american.
on March 29, 2007 at 07:44 AM - LINKUnfortunately yes, your comments are being hit by cheaters who are sore losers.
Catnapping was permanently banned from the game yesterday after defacing our Wikipedia page with false statements. Since this comment originates after her being warned of legal action if she continued the defamation, I have no choice but to take it to another level.
Cheers for checking out the game.
on March 30, 2007 at 02:06 AM - LINKYou can’t sue for defamation when what I’m telling folk is the truth...my accounts of blogshares are factual, and I have the screenshots to back it up.
attacks on players for whom english is a second language, and attacks on a disabled player have been saved.
Subwolf has also attacked players, and laughed at the taunts made towards asian speakers having problems with English.
Has Nexy seen your video asking the camera, “whassup nigga?”
on March 30, 2007 at 02:31 AM - LINKand p.s...it’s not YOUR wikipedia page. nice try, though.
