Sprint ready to launch an Android phone by the end of 2009

Dan Hesse Speaking at Brainstorm: Tech

At the Fortune’s Brainstorm: Tech event, Sprint CEO Dan Hesse talked about some Palm Pre things, mixed in with some Android news.  Basically, they waited around until Android has evolved enough, which is known as the second version of Android to Hesse.

He claims Sprint was always in support of Android, but they wanted to be sure it was ready to go before the invested funds and time in marketing an Android based phone.  In addition, he felt Android wasn’t ready for “prime time” when it was first released, but he thinks an Android phone could be a profitable venture as it has matured.

It will be interesting to see how many Sprint branded Android phones are released in 2009, if any at all.  One thing’s for sure, Google must be enjoying all the publicity Android has been getting as they hope it can turn into something big.
