Just recently, AT&T introduced AT&T Mobile TV with FLO, the phone service provider’s new mobile TV service that will be launched in May. And now, they have also partnered with Sony Pictures Television to officially launch a movie network for mobile phones. Said to be the first to brave this direction, Sony and AT&T together with MediaFLO USA are expecting for this new movie network to click as mobile service industry is already successful in the Asia and Europe.
It’s interesting to note that Sony was also the first to offer movies saved on memory cards for cellphones, as well as distribute movie titles to content aggregator such as MSpot. Now, they are more aggressive than ever to be the first to launch a mobile TV channel. The movie channel will be called PIX and will be available together with other channels like ESPN, Nickelodeon, CBS, and NBC.
Sony Pictures Television’s VP for mobile entertainment Eric Berger noted:
Sony Pictures Television is also reportedly in discussions with other mobile carriers. But right now, or rather soon enough in May, only AT&T subscribers will be lucky enough to try mobile movie channel.
