Around the Network

We all knew that is was just a matter of time before Facebook would finally catch up with MySpace, well at least in the total number of worldwide unique visitors. The latest numbers from comScore show that both MySpace and Facebook registered around 115 million unique visitors coming from all over the world this past April. So, with that we can officially declare that Facebook is no longer the second largest social network. Likewise MySpace is no longer the largest social network. So whoever is the largest social network today would depend on which of the two you like better.
For Facebook, this certainly comes as a welcomed development, although certainly short of another objective which is US social network market dominance. Because based on the comScore report for April 2008, MySpace still attracted the most number of visitors coming from the US. MySpace’s total US unique visitors was at the 72 million mark while Facebook’s was down at the 36 million mark. Despite failing to equal its achievement in the worldwide standing, Facebook’s US unique visitors is still 23 million better that it was last year.
But then again, with the way Facebook is beefing up its social network offerings, we would not be surprise if one day, we wake up to find Facebook is also beating MySpace in terms of US unique visitors. After all, we didn’t expect it to achieve that feat with worldwide unique visitors quite so fast.
