Skyhook pairs up with Texas Instruments

by Iyaz Akhtar on Feb 18, 2009 at 08:03 PM

Texas Instruments is pairing up with SkyhookThe name “Skyhook” may not be familiar to a lot of you.  If you’re an Apple keynote watcher, you may remember Steve Jobs mentioning a deal with them when talking about GPS.  They are the company that allows location triangulation using Wi-Fi access points.  Now Texas Instruments is interested in Skyhook.

The two are partnering up for Texas Instruments’ WiLink and NaviLink.  NaviLink has Bluetooth, FM technology and assisted GPS on a single-chip.  This kind of small form factor makes it easier for phone manufacturers to build in lots of functionality with just one chip.  WiLink is allows for Voice over wireless LAN.
