Google Voice

In today’s world, we are always on the move and busy.  Sometimes, we are not near our home phones, work phones, or cell phones and we can miss a very important call.  To manage all of this, some people use Skydeck, or Google Voice.  However, why not use the best core features from each service combined into one service?  Today, Skydeck announced a new service which is a mashup of both Google Voice and their Skydeck services.  First, let’s see what each service is about and how they can work together to benefit the user.

Skydeck

Using Skydeck’s free service, it is possible to forward all contacts, calls, and text messages to Skydeck’s online backup system.  In addition, any missed calls will automatically go to Skydeck and if the person leaves a voicemail, Skydeck will take that voicemail and convert it to text and then email you with the text of the voicemail.  However, having Skydeck convert the voicemail to text is a feature only available in the paid version of Skydeck, but all other features are available in the free version.  Keep in mind that Skydeck cannot work with multiple phones.

Google Voice

Now, Google also has a stake in this department.  Their service, aptly named Google Voice, is able to take any incoming call and forward it to any numbers of your choosing.  The problem with this is that people will have to ring your new Google Voice number, as opposed to your normal cell phone number.  The positive aspect of such a service is the ability to have any call hit your cell phone, work phone, and home phone.  Hopefully, you will be able to receive that call from anywhere.

The Google Voice Mashup

Skydeck’s new mashup service features the core, free features from Skydeck’s normal service, and Google Voice’s ability to ring several of your other numbers.  The pros here is that everything will be free, and consolidated under one service.  Also, there will be no need to sign up with Google Voice to get their number, because the Mashup will handle it so that any missed call will ring your other numbers with Google Voice, but otherwise all contacts, calls, and texts will go to Skydeck’s online service.
