Segway transformed into a hip wheelchair

by Doug Berger on Feb 7, 2007 at 04:41 PM

Think of all the lives that could be changed with the use of a Segway wheelchair!  Josep Mora from Barcelona, Spain has modded a traditional (stand-up) Segway into a wheelchair version.  The unit is still as portable as a wheelchair and can be put into your trunk - and probably even your backseat.  Segway (the company), if you’re not already working on this product, contact Josep and get going on it already!

Around the same time the Segway came out there was a wheelchair version. I haven’t heard much about it over the years though… I guess the market is not as big.

I am not sure if this technology was bought by Johnson and Johnson or if this version is a competitor but it looks the same.

Segway and the iBOT is not a competitor it belong to the same inventor

Please send me the address of Josep Mora from Barcelona I would like to get the same

Please don’t guess that the market is not as big. The handicap market is evaluated as more than a billion dollars per year in the US.

I would like to remind people that the iBOT was introduce before the Segway and found a good interest for all. That’s Universal Design!

Ibots are very expensive ($30,000US), but will climb steps.  Segways only run about $6,000US.  There are seats made by Segovater in the US, but not as nice (I think).

    Hello,

I am a paraplegic from a motocross accident about 6 years ago and have always loved the segway and I saw the video of a wheelchair type of one and got very excited!

Are they in production and if so what is the price, availabily and any info you can give me!

Please respond asap as this would give me great freedom and some fun!

    Sincerly
