SayType lets you text without touching
We love to text. We love to email. We love to do this all the time, even when driving. A new company hopes we come to our senses and pay for their services to translate our voice to text. Am I the only one pessimistic about this?
The premise is somewhat simple: Sign up, phone the company, talk at the tone (120 seconds limit), then *poof* your message gets sent in the mode of your desire.
Now surely you noticed I wrote, “pay for their service.” Just how much? $14.95 per month for email OR for text.
For road warriors, surely this makes tons of sense. Or does it? When I send stuff in text (texting or emails), I like to make sure what I am saying makes sense so when it gets forwarded to my superiors, I don’t look like an ass. This takes away some of that security blanket, so even though I am on the road often, I am unsure how useful this would be for me.
For the rest of us, another monthly charge that perhaps the telecoms ought to be including? I am not so sure that is going to bowl anyone over. Great idea, but this company needs to get bought and incorporated into a telecom. Other competing options are things like native app Jott.
Anyone disagree? Let me know in the comments. Warning: the company site plays music (uggh)

Palm Pre Information & Updates
Palm just introduced their next-gen smartphone, the Palm Pre, and next-gen operating system, Palm webOS. Gadgetell's got the latest Pre and webOS information and news for you right here.

I agree that hands free services should be included as an option in my wireless service plan. It would the socially responsible thing for major telecom company’s to offer, or at the very least follow the lead of Alcohol Company’s that remind their customers to enjoy their products responsibly, don’t drink and drive etc… Maybe their actions would lead to a broader general awareness of the dangers and negative consequences associated with touch texting while driving. Leave it to the starving students of the world to create innovative change that improve the safety of us all using technology you don’t need expensive proprietary equipment or service to try before you buy. This is precisely the case with the hands free driving solutions form SayType.com. Your first 21 messages are free and the service works from any phone, even landlines! This should insure that anyone that wants to test drive their voice on the SayType system, the opportunity to do so without any stings attached.
I am a previous Jott customer, attorney and mother of two college age drivers. We all enjoy stay connected; driving safely and getting were we need to go faster using SayType’s driving solutions. I spend a significant amount of time using my phone to get things done and stay connected with the rest of my busy world while driving. My family and I made the hands free switch from Jott to SayType last September for the following reasons:
First or all, SayType’s unlimited texting, e-mail and Internet services are just $14.95!
SayType provides up to two minutes of talk time for voice messages that are changed to text and delivered accurately and quickly. Jott’s 15-30 second limit and inconsistent delivery times are reasons enough to make anyone crazy, especially when you’re in the middle of saying something important, and the most important part of the message is not sent. Grrr.
Jott uses human transcribers outside of the U.S. to manually type out message which eliminates any expectation of privacy for my person information. My experience of using the Jott service provided many examples of grammar, spelling, and punctuation errors, on top of the already frustratingly slow and inconsistence message delivery times. If SayType doesn’t understand a word I said, it places a question mark in parenthesis, like this; (?) and that doesn’t happen often, so far as I have experienced.
Moreover, information that leaves the U.S. losses the privacy protection of personal information otherwise afforded to U.S. citizens through the Constitution. SayType, on the other hand, uses advanced technology using artificial intelligence hosted within the U.S. which ensures that your personal information are kept private and secure. Now, I can use SayType to compose e-mail, write papers/memo’s for work and get more done, faster, with every call. (Something I couldn’t do with Jott due to privacy/security issues and legal obligations I have to my clients.)
SayType provides added value by providing additional services that improving my drive on a daily basis. Unlimited internet service using talk or text is available free at this time. SayType hands free driving solutions that improve drive times include: traffic conditions that are updated each minute, turn-by-turn directions from point A to point B, find any location, forecast the weather, connect with other drivers using license plate messaging, translate messages into selected languages, ask questions, define words, get news updates, and more. If you could only convenience the large telecom company’s to offer unlimited texting, e-mail, and internet for $14.95 a month… no contract… no special phone… no overage charges or $190 tickets for using their service… yes we would all be better off, but, until then, call or text SayType at 916-947-7325 and see for yourself if the service works for you.
For me, the service is fast, accurate, and allows me to focus on what demands my attention the most. It’s great! In fact, I used SayType to create this response. I copied the e-mail and pasted this response. I would have never typed this all out, ever!
