Time Magazine is reporting that vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin’s e-mail account was accessed by hackers. The Wikileaks website has published several screenshots of messages and other data hackers claim they got from one of Palin’s two Yahoo accounts. Palin had already been receiving criticism about her e-mail account after it was revealed she had been using them to conduct government business in an attempt to avoid compliancy and archive requirements, which happens to be a crime.

The hacker group Anonymous, which is associated with the infamous message board 4Chan (known for the DoS style “pranks” they play on numerous websites) has taken responsibility for the attack.

“This is a shocking invasion of the Governor’s privacy and a violation of law. The matter has been turned over to the appropriate authorities and we hope that anyone in possession of these e-mails will destroy them. We will have no further comment,” said McCain-Palin campaign manager Rick Davis.

The Secret Service requested copies of the hacked e-mails from the Associated Press, which refused, and the FBI is reportedly launching an investigation also. Computer issues seem to continually hit the McCain-Palin campaign. First John McCain claims he doesn’t know how to send e-mail or even use a computer, then one of his aides makes the absurd claim that he helped invent the Blackberry, and now this, which may eclipse Troopergate and become E-mailgate. Do we dare ask what could possibly be next?
