Sansa Express kills the iPod Shuffle?

by JG Mason on Apr 28, 2007 at 07:10 PM

Sansa Express mp3PC Mag just reviewed the Sansa Express and gave it a better rating than the iPod Shuffle.  Citing a $60 price tag, a bright OLED screen, upgradeable memory and simple to use features (like an FM radio), they see it as the Shuffle killer.

From the review:

“There’s not a whole lot to say about the Sansa Express, and that’s the point. People shopping for cheap often default to the Apple iPod shuffle just because they’ve seen it in ads and, hey, it works with iTunes. SanDisk throws a monkeywrench into that simple process with its new Sansa Express.”

Really?  I don’t see the $60 price point as the hotbed, if that is all you can afford for your sole mp3 player, Sansa offers something really good here.  But if you are like me, at this price I want the device to play music and that is about it.  For me, the Shuffle allows me to take my music easily onto something the ever-so-smartly clips on and forget about it (I dislike running with an armband holder).  Don’t get me started on having to resort to listening to FM radio.

Besides, holding the Sansa just doesn’t look fun.  I still lose track of time being amazed by the simplicity the Shuffle—I know, I am seeking help for this condition…

I just picked one up a few hours ago. This is a terrific player. I was crossing my fingers hoping it didn’t have low-volume and distortion/cross-noise… it doesn’t! It’s supreme and is performing flawlessly so far. First gripe: I was there were more radio presets. Here in Toronto you can get a lot of stations.
