The folks at SanDisk announced a few new memory sticks and SD cards that continue the trend of increasing the capacity while at the same time reducing the cost per GB. Of the four items announced the two that stand out are the:

  • The 4GB Ultra II SDHC with its new ‘Hinge Lock’ which handily allows the disc to be connected to a USB port.
  • Multi Card Express Card Adapter, a device that allows computers with ExpressCard slots to read a variety of SD and Memory Stick formats.

The ‘Hinge Lock’ looks a particularly attractive addition, allowing the SDHC to connect directly to a USB port. This ‘ease of use’ trend continues with the ability to connect the Multi Card to a ExpressCard slot. Both seem well thought out and customer friendly additions.

Prices and Availability

4GB Ultra II SDHC - $80 available in October, Multi Card Express Card Adapter - $30 available in September, 8GB Memory Stick PRO Duo - $160 available in October, 8GB Memory Stick Micro - Available in Q4 but no price known at this time
