Full FeedSamsung’s Instinct to require the Sprint Everything plan, with SDK coming
Although we have previously learned that the Samsung Instinct will launch with Sprint on June 20, there has not been any announcement regarding the price, however at a recent live Webinar we were told that it will be “comparable with others in its class.”
As far as the plan, the Instinct will require the Sprint Everything pricing plan which starts at $69.99 for 450 minutes and goes up to $99.99 for unlimited minutes. All of the Everything plans include unlimited messaging and data. The reasoning behind this rule is, according to Dan Hesse, the CEO of Sprint they want you to be able to “use your phone for all the great things it can do without worrying about the meter running.” Makes perfect sense to us.
The Samsung Instinct will ship with just about every accessory that you will need or want to include two batteries, an AC power adapter, travel charger, USB cable, carrying case, stylus, 3.5mm stereo headset, 2GB microSD card and a card adapter. While the battery life will vary depending on use, the included batteries are 1100 milliamp and are expected to offer over 5 hours of talk time life.
Overall, and while this is somewhat of a recap the Samsung Instinct will feature:
- Sprint Mobile Broadband (EV-DO Rev. A) Network support
- 3-inch touchscreen display
- Haptics feedback
- Visual Voicemail
- Voice activation
- 2-megapixel camera with video recording
- Full HTML browsing via the Intelica web browser
- POP3 and MS Exchange email support
- GPS for navigation, search, weather and movies
- Stereo Bluetooth
- 3.5mm jack
- microSD card slot with support for up to 8GB cards
- Sprint TV and Music support
Another nice item to note is that the Instinct will be an open platform, with Java-based apps and they are planning to release an SDK in the future. It all sounds so good, now if we could just learn what the Instinct itself will retail for.

I got my instinct for $129 via a sprint upgrade (existing customer with phone for *over* 24 months) and it was the deal of the century!!
This thing rocks! Did find 2 minor bugs in the navigation aspect of the phone, but it’s not critical - it doesn’t stop usage of the phone.
Also, the open SDK is going to be awesome!! AS a software developer, I can’t wait to get a hold of it!!
