Samsung Releases Hybrid Hard Drive to Manufacturers

by Adam Berger on Mar 8, 2007 at 12:10 AM

Samsung Hard driveThe hybrid hard drive, which has been heavily talked about by Samsung and Microsoft, has been pushed to OEMs today. The 2.5-inch hard drives, which use “128/256MB of NAND flash to augment the traditional 80/120/160GB of tradition har disk capacity” are claimed to have increased reliability over conventional hard drives. Samsung also claims that these new Hybrid Hard Drives can increase Windows Vista boot times by 50% while cutting the power used by the hard drives by around 70-90%. That is good enough to give the average laptop user an addition 30 minutes of battery. As of yet, no prices have been presented, but Engadget has predicted that these hard drives will hit high-end laptops as expensive add ons soon.
