Samsung heads in the right direction with Unified UI

by Doug Berger on Jan 8, 2009 at 02:32 PM

Far too often, large consumer electronics manufacturers have so many different divisions, and engineers working on so many products, that there is a different user interface on each product line.  Samsung has finally snapped out of it and realized people want easy to use, familiar menus and firmware on their devices.  No matter if you’re playing with your new camera or your new HDTV, you should be able to easily figure out how to do what you want to without reading an instruction manual or calling customer service.

Samsung’s announcement yesterday that they will be revamping all of their products with a “Unified UI” (user interface) makes us proud.  At the press conference, they showed off the UI, and it looks very similar to other iPod-like (or should I say Creative-like) hierarchical UIs out there… but that’s OK.  We love great design, and Samsung’s new menu structure is sure to please consumers.  Now please—other manufacturers… take the hint.
