Samsung dual-mode CDMA/GSM phone

by Adam Berger on Mar 23, 2006 at 04:15 PM

Samsung cell phone dual sim cardThe Samsun W399 seems to be the first of its kind, especially from a major phone manufacturer. It can go from CDMA or tri-band GSM without powering off. The handset has slots for both RUIM and SIM cards. It also features Bluetooth, a video capable 1.3 megapixel, rotating camera with flash, a MP3 player, and BREW support. This is a really great concept and seems like something that should have been thought of previously, even if the phone has to be a little larger.

Thus far the phone has been FCC approved but there is no word on a US release (I expect not), or pricing.

This phone would sell in the kenya as the two supported techologies cdma and gsm networks are available!!

We would really appreciate the prices for such phones. We have the two networks in Kenya and this would be greatly convenience customers of both networks.

Also there’s the Motorola A860 with dual mode (CDMA 800/1900 and
GSM 900/1800) which is quite a sleek phone.

Also Samsung has several models that does dual mode:
    SCH-W569
    SCH-W399
    SCH-W379
    W219
    W109

You can review the phones and their prices here: http://www.africacdma.com/wp-content/uploads/2007/04/cdma_ref_quotation_270307.pdf

Other providers of dual mode phones include Huawei and ZTE. I’d recommend the Motorola A860 though - a sleek phone!

Kenya:Dual mode phones are a great idea. But Safaricom and Celtel can easly give suscribers two mobile lines in the same mobile phone now so a person can use two different tarrifs on the same phone. They will not until they are forced to.So CDMA and dual mode mobiles will break their duopoly. I say it is high time.Mind you CDMA comes in many flavours and are not compatiable so be careful when you import.
