Roku joins the Netflix HD party

Roku's Netflix Player gets HD

Roku introduced the first set top box that brought Netflix’s Watch Instantly feature to your television.  Since its introduction, Xbox 360 and certain TiVos have leapfrogged the Roku by getting HD streaming.  Roku now joins them in offering HD streaming.  Roku also expects to add more HD content partners (beyond Netflix) in 2009.

The Netflix Player by Roku is probably the best bang for the buck out there for Netflix players.  Xbox 360 requires a Gold membership to Xbox Live, which costs about $40 for 13 months on Amazon.  TiVo requires a subscription plan in order to watch Netflix movies.

Roku’s player is under $100 and has no subscription fees (aside from the actual Netflix subscription that you need for any of these players to work).
