RIM planning to release BlackBerry watch

by Sue Walsh on Oct 19, 2009 at 04:02 PM

BlackBerry watchBlackBerry is quickly transitioning from being solely a top of the line business tool to a must have consumer device as well.  In what may be an attempt to capitalize on that and appeal to geeks everywhere as well, RIM has announced it’s developing a BlackBerry watch.

The new device, pictured above courtesy of Crackberry, features a large OLED screen and long battery life.  It’s designed by RIM to compliment, not replace, a traditional BlackBerry.  The screen will display notifications of incoming messages along with a brief preview, presumably to allow you to decide if you want to whip your Berry out and answer.  Okay, it’s not as if checking your Berry itself is such a task, but still it’s a cool looking gadget.  So far a release date and price are unknown.

I never understood why BlackBerry users affectionately call it the CrackBerry until I got my own in August.  This thing is an amazing device and yes, it truly is addictive.  There’s just something about having what for all intents and purposes is a tiny laptop that fits in your pocket.  Having email, social networking, weather, breaking news, sports scores, live TV, streaming radio, YouTube, IM, and the web along with organizational features and of course, a phone, at your fingertips is just irresistible, and there are millions like me who agree.

Okay my fellow BlackBerry fans, what do you think? Is this destined to be the next must have accessory or will it be a dud?  Let me know what you think!

    Go look at http://www.3gwatches.com

They sell actual smartwatches that have phones, camera, video, email, etc. The Blackberry compatable ones are just to look up text msgs and you have to already own and carry around a blackberry for it to work! How dumb is that? I don’t see these being useful at all. Why wouldn’t you just take your blackberry out your pocket and look at the screen?

I think the blackberry watch is actually going to be a great idea. Lets say for example your at a public place where you know if you take your phone or blackberry out someone is going to say something, a Wedding or a Graduation or even a nice time out. If your phone keeps ringing and sometimes you cant hear or feel your blackberry vibrating or ringing. The watch can let you know if someone is calling you or if someone is texting you and to make sure if it is an important call or text you can actually excuse yourself without saying you have to make a phonecall you can just pretend you have to use the bathroom or something. Also if they make the blackberry watch in different models then i think a lot of people will buy it instead of having millions of people with the same watch. People like new stuff and since we do live in a lazy society people will buy the watch just for the fact that they wont have to take their phones out of their pockets. Also helps out when your driving so you dont get a ticket for looking or holding your phone
