PS3 US pre-launch woes
It’s not even in the US yet, and already there are PS3 complaints (besides the price tag). Sony claims to be sending 400,000 units to US retail outlets, but analysts seem to think only 150,000-200,000 will actually make it to stores for launch this Friday. No, it’s not a Chinese theft ring, just a bit of number crunching that doesn’t quite add up and will make for cranky consumers. Of course, 750,000 are supposed to be available by Jan. 1, so if the math adds up, it’s really only annoying to those who waited in line over night.
For those who actually get their hands on one, it appears that 200 of the more than 8,000 (2.5%) PS1 and PS2 games experience serious problems - no sound or screen freeze - or simply won’t play on the PS3. Since Japanese gamers didn’t even average one game per console, wanting to play their old games on the newer, pricier system, it looks like backwards compatibility is pretty important. I feel a series of lenghty download patches coming. Do you think the PS3 will have a blue screen of death now, too?

That is quite an old picture of the PS3. It isn’t silver anymore and that boomerang controller doesn’t exist anymore.
