Play YouTube video on the Apple TV

Apple TV Youtube

Since launch day, the Apple TV has been hacked to the bone, a suprising amount for any Apple product. Apple has done nothing to stop these creative minds.

A Series of Tubes, an application that allows you to play YouTube videos on the Apple TV, is another result of these repetitive hacking sessions. Obviously, the videos generally look awful, due to the severe upscaling required for the flash videos to be played back full screen.

Fittingly, a video has been posted to YouTube, explaining the features of the app. Just like any other video that the Apple TV can play, YouTube videos come with the image that you would see on the site itself. The videos are not accessible through a search, but rather from a list of categories. Finally, you can choose for the videos to be cached. This means that you can save each movie you watch, so when you watch it again, it loads much quicker.

While fairly useless and completely time wasting, it’s safe to say we all hope the hacking lives on.
