Paul Allen wants you to buy some Moxi

The Digeo Moxi HD DVR

Paul Allen (a.k.a. the other Microsoft founder) is behind a venture called Digeo.  Today, Digeo announced the Moxi HD DVR.

What’s so special about another DVR?  Apparently, Moxi’s menu system won two Emmy awards.  I don’t really know how that works, but it happened.  Unlike the TiVo, there are no monthly fees and no ads.  Moxi also features widgets.

The device is not meant to be a mass market, they want to reach 12-15% of the market.  The Moxi is aimed at digital cable subscriber.  It is not for satellite or over the air antenna people.

One of the cooler features about the Moxi HD DVR is that fact that you can always see the full television image.  When you put a guide on the screen, the television picture goes into the right corner.  If you place a ticker on the bottom of the screen, the picture scales back so you still get the whole image.  You are not losing picture even with widget overlays.

What’s the cost of the Moxi?  $799.  You can enter to win a Moxi below or you can buy one with their exclusive partner, Amazon.com, or the Moxi site.  The price may seem high, but remember there is no monthly service fee.
