The Optimus Mini 3 is one of cool devices that one can either live with or without. It is a nifty device that connects to your PC via USB. It has 3 keys which you could assigned to control various desktop tasks. Adding even more useful functionality is the Optimus Mini’s own backlit OLED screen that displays the tasks you assigned to each of its three keys.

The good thing about the Optimus Mini is that you can switch from 3-sets of function keys to another set anytime you want to. It has six different key layouts triggered by pressing CTRL, Shift, or Ctrl+Shift on your regular keyboards. The Optimus Mini keypad allots hotkey functions for launching such programs as Internet Explorer, Microsoft Word, Outlook Express and Windows Media Player.

If you want to change image icons representing the different actions that you want to perform on your desktop, you can do so by assigning a different webcam image to each key and have them dynamically updated. You can also mix and match key functions anytime you desire.  Other functions that you can configure in the Optimus Mini keypad are:

• Start an application.
• Set keyboard combination.
• System status with free memory and CPU usage graph.
• Display Webcam or Dynamic images from the web.
• Display time and weather with animated analog or digital clock face.
• Launch various desktop applications.
• Set vertical or horizontal orientation for keyboard images.

But no matter how uber cool a device is, there will always be a pitfall, For the Optimus Mini 3, it has got to be its suggested retail, which is expected to be around $159.
