NY officials pissy about GTA IV trailer

This just just isn’t a good year so far for Take-Two games and it’s only April.
First, the company’s top officers get ousted, the company faced a few problems reorganizing, the SEC is investigating them (again) and now - back to its more familiar situation - T2 has managed to piss off a city.
After the Grand Theft Auto IV trailer was released, New York city officials starting making cranky public statements about the game’s extremely NYish setting. Elements seen it the game’s fictional city’s skyline, once again Liberty City, look similar to the Statue of Liberty, the Brooklyn Bridge and the Cyclone in Coney Island.
From the NY Daily news:
“Setting Grand Theft Auto in the safest big city in America would be like setting Halo in Disneyland,” said City Councilman Peter Vallone, chairman of the Council’s Public Safety Committee.

Wait, that might actually be a kick ass game. I wonder how long it will be before we see a video game set in a cartoon theme park layered under the Halo engine? GTA IV is scheduled to be released October 16, 2007.
When will politicians realize that the more they speak out against video games - especially before they are even released - the more free publicity they are giving to a game, the more likely gamers are to buy it and the worse they look to gaming voters?

Its a frickin’ video game people calm down! Politicians are worried about a video game. They need to worry about something more important. Like the war in IRAQ, gas prices, TAXES, and how to scam us U.S. citizens out of more money (as usual). To end this, those old fat lazy politicians are the OLDER generation who invented videos games. Sorry! We couldnt stay in the ping pong era forever….
