Nokia Tube in the wild

Nokia is really taking its time in rolling out its very own iPhone killer, and doesn’t mind if Samsung or LG dive first into this new trend in mobile technology. But while they’re definitely doing a good job trying to stick to their development schedule, we can’t exactly say the same about their secrecy policies.

There’s no way to know for sure if this was a only minor blunder or if Nokia deliberately leaked the information itself, but some photos of their soon-to-arrive iPhone-killing touchscreen phone were spotted recently, to the joy of many Nokia fans like you. This was supposedly shown during a slideshow presentation at the Evans Data Relationships Conference in Redwood City California. It looks mighty like the iPhone, only with black trimmings, and if the rumored specs hold true will be a better smartphone than iPhone 2.0.

The new Nokia touchscreen phone, dubbed the “Tube,” is rumored to have a high-resolution, 640x360 pixel (16:9) 3.2-inch touchscreen, built-in GPS system and localized haptics feedback.

It’s expected to be able to make calls anywhere in the world (thanks to a quadband antenna) and it supports high-speed downloads via HSDPA and WLAN. Unfortunately, it won’t be having multi-touch features (yet), but at least it has Bluetooth, a 3.2-megapixel auto-focus camera, a 3.5mm headphone jack and TV-out functionality.

Was that too much info for you? Don’t worry, I only have one last thing to say. The Nokia Tube, according to the reports, will be available by the end of 2008. Just in time for the holiday. So start saving!
