Nokia to buy mobile messaging company, OZ

by Iyaz Akhtar on Sep 30, 2008 at 09:22 PM

Nokia is picking up a messaging company, Oz.With more people texting than talking on the phone, Nokia went out and bought a company that specializes in mobile messaging called OZ.  The Head of Nokia Services & Software, Niklas Savander said, “OZ’s team and technology will help Nokia to address the fast growing consumer messaging market.“

I’ll try to avoid any “Wizard of Oz” puns or jokes for the good of mankind.  OZ lets you use instant messaging, e-mail and texting on your phone.  They are a medium-sized company with a little over 200 employees.

Even though they are not a huge company, OZ has had some big partners.  They provide mobile messaging solutions to companies like AOL, AT&T, Microsoft, and Sony Ericsson.

No word if any of these relationships will change once the purchase is completed. Oz also had a pre-existing business relationship with Nokia that started back in 2003.
