Nikon unloads eight new COOLPIX digital cameras

Nikon COOLPIX Cameras

Brace yourselves folks, as Nikon just announced eight new digital snappers all bearing the COOLPIX branding.  These new Nikon COOLPIX cameras are the S230, S220, S630, S620, L10, L20, L19 and the P90.

According to Nikon, all of these cameras feature NIKKOR lenses, EXPEED digital image processing, Smart Portrait System, Enhanced Face-priority Auto Focus and Scene Auto Selector.  The last three are new features which Nikon introduced just now for its COOLPIX camera line.

The Smart Portrait System is something that “ensures a bright smile being captured without blinking.”  The Scene Auto Selector automatically selects the most appropriate shooting mode, and the Enhanced Face-priority Auto Focus detects up to 12 faces-per-image.  Once the camera detects a face, the subjects of your photo are brightened to create an even looking photo.

Here’s a rundown of the key features of each of these new COOLPIX cameras.

The 10-Megapixel COOLPIX L100 features a 3-inch LCD with anti-reflection coating, 15x optical zoom with wide-angle to super-telephoto capability, 4-way VR Image Stabilization System, and it can take photos as fast as 13fps giving you up to 30 consecutive frames.  Expect this in March 2009 with a price tag of $279.95.

The COOLPIX L20 is also a 10-Megapixel camera with 3-inch LCD Monitor, 3.6x zoom, and motion detection technology.  Next, we have the 8-Megapixel COOLPIX L19 featuring a 2.7-inch LCD monitor and 3.6x zoom.  These two will be out in February.  The the L20 will be $129.95 and L19 will cost $109.95.

Next up are four COOLPIX S-series cameras, the S630, S620, S230, and S220 all geared for the fashion conscious camera users.  Both S230 and S220 are 10-Megapixel cameras boasting touch screens, one-touch focus and zoom, 3x optical zoom, quick photo retouch, blink proof, ISO range up to 2000, and the 4-way VR Image Stabilization feature.  The only difference between these two cameras is their LCD, with the S220 having a 2.5-inch while the S220 with a 3-inch LCD.

Likewise, the S630 and S620 also sport almost the same features except for some minor differences.  The S630 is a 12-Megapixel camera, while the S620 is a 12.2-Megapixel one.  In addition, the S630’s got 7x optical zoom and shoots at 11fps, while the S620 has a 4x-wide optical zoom.  These new COOLPIX S-Series cameras will be available sometime in February 2009 with the following SRPs, $149.95 for the S220, $229.95 for the S230, $269.95 for the S620, and $279.95 for the S630.

Last up is COOLPIX P90 which is geared to advanced photo enthusiasts.  It features 24x optical zoom, 15fps shooting speed, wide-angle to super telephoto zoom range, electronic viewfinder, and Distortion Control.  The Nikon P90 will be available sometime in March for $399.99.
