CES 2009 Press Conference: Toshiba live blog

Over the years Toshiba has continued to infiltrate the consumer electronics market moving beyond computer and into home video (remember the whole HD-DVD debacle). It was just under a year ago that they lost on HD-DVD, let’s see what they have in-store this year. The lights dim and the PowerPoint begins…

Also promising something beyond Regza, it is Cell TV. Described as being in a category of its own and being the most advanced. It is a set top box along with an LCD panel, and offer state of the art picture quality. It will be marketed in 2009.

The new lineup will also include an Expert Mode to better fine tune your settings. They will also be ready to play content without a separate player. They will have an SD card slot and USB port to make it easy to use a SD card from your digital camera without a separate cable or an external USB hard drive with your content already stored.

They are also working on inconsistent volume levels. They have incorporated Dolby Volume, they are the first to incorporate this into a TV. It will keep the original dynamics and not distort the sound quality.

Regza will include Auto View to auto-adjust to your viewing environment. They will also have instaport to enable faster HDMI switching. It will bring the wait time from almost 5-7 seconds to near instant.

Scott Ramirez, the VP of Marketing for the TV Group is taking the stage. Speaking a little about why the economy from 2008 has changed the rules. They intent to offer a “Toshiba LCD TV for everyone.”
