NBC jumps ship, moves to Amazon Unbox

by Michael Yurechko on Sep 6, 2007 at 03:11 PM

Amazon UnboxIt seems NBC and Amazon have worked together and finally reached a deal, a deal that may not please Apple too much. NBC will be selling it’s some of it’s shows, such as “Heroes” and “The Office,” to Amazon’s Unbox video download service, sometime in the near future.

This news broke after Apple and NBC had a reported “hissy fit” regarding selling shows on the iTunes music store. There was a lot of “he says, she says” going on, with NBC blaming Apple and Apple coming back saying that NBC wanted to raise show prices from $1.99 to $4.99.

The apparent reason NBC went with Amazon is because Amazon agreed to be flexible with the pricing. The NY Times states NBC wants to charge more for the latest episodes while lowering the prices on older episodes. It should be interesting to see how this pans out, and after Steve Jobs’ smart remark about NBC at yesterday’s keynote, I doubt NBC/Apple duo will be back together anytime soon.
