NBC Direct up and running; Verdict: Not so hot

by Natesh Sood on Nov 11, 2007 at 01:05 AM

NBC Direct

NBC Direct was first announced back on September 20, and now that it has launched it doesn’t look too hot. Basically, NBC Direct was where you are able to download free episodes of their latest show, sounds good right? There are a few catches, however.

First off, you need to download and install a special player to view it. So far, it already sounds annoying. Next, the player will only work with Internet Explorer, so if you’re using another browser, you’re out of luck. You better open up IE or reinstall it if you hope to use NBC Direct. Also, it must have the most current security update. Assuming you’ve gotten this far, NBC is most likely mad because they didn’t think you could get this far, so now once you download the video, you have 48 hours to watch it and then it will never work again. Lastly, don’t think you can put the new episode of Heroes on your iPod or any other portable media player because NBC won’t let you.

I mean if NBC really wants their fans to use this, then they should really make some major changes. If NBC decides to fix this up, it could be a pretty cool video service, but as of now, it’s not.
