Mini-Box’s small and speedy PC

by PJ Hruschak on Jan 29, 2007 at 07:37 AM

voompc.jpgMini computer maker, Mini-Box, has started shipping a series of low power barebone PCs for your car. The VoomPC-2 computers have a Mini-ITX motherboard, an integrated battery management system, 1.5 GhZ processor, VGA, S-Video, USB 2.0 (8 ports), Firewire, Ethernet, PCMCIA type I and type II CardBus interface for GPRS/WIFI and smart 5.1 audio, a slim (2.5 in) IDE adapter and a small form case. The VoomPC-2 is available with the above specs for $399 (as Barebones, so you’ll need to get your own hard drive and RAM) or a lesser version for $319. It’ll run any OS (Windows and Linux are listed) and touchscreens are sold separately. Even better, the makers claim the PC will use less power than parking lights and includes several power management features so it won’t be damaged by power surges (automatically shuts down when the battery drops below 11.2 volts) or drain the car’s battery. Let’s hope it works well with Vista.
