McAfee releases report on most dangerous celeb searches

by Heather Wood on Aug 26, 2009 at 12:56 PM

McAfee LogoVirus creators are using celebrities to draw in traffic to their malicious sites through online search engines.  According to McAfee, the list of most dangerous celeb searches includes Brad Pitt, Beyonce, Jennifer Aniston, Tom Brady, and Jessica Simpson.  The top honors of the most dangerous searched celeb go to Jessica Biel.  Surprisingly enough, the Obamas did not break the top twenty for most dangerous searches.

On average, one in five Jessica Biel related sites are rated as security risks.  McAfee came to this conclusion after surveying 900 websites for the report.  The malicious websites contain either spam, photos or links that can cause harm to your computer.  Cyber criminals follow celebrity trends as a way to attract visitors and typically use people that are currently searched frequently through Google, Yahoo, Bing, or other online search engines.

McAfee recommends only use well known, big name sites when you click on search results.  They also reminded users to make sure they have a current anti-virus software program installed on their computer.
