Make parking more efficient with XM’s ParkingLink

by Doug Berger on Aug 11, 2006 at 04:12 AM

XM ParkingLink

At last January’s CES (2006), XM took the wraps off of their latest service - XM ParkingLink.  XM and their partners on the project, Standard Parking, and Quixote Transportation Technologies, are ready to launch the service later this year in Chicago, Detroit, Los Angeles, and Washington DC.  Expect it to expand into other major markets by Q3 of 2007.  The technology works by utilizing GPS and a series of wireless sensors embedded in parking garages and pay lots around the country (include major airports, office buildings, malls, and arenas).  To give you an idea of the scope of the project, Standard Parking alone has around 1,900 lots (about 1,000,000 parking spaces), in which most of them will connect to the service.
