Logitech unveils new gamer-centric peripherals

by Shawn Ingram on Jan 6, 2009 at 10:39 PM

Logitech G seriesSure, CES is a great way to find brand new hardware and gadgets that are coming out within the next year, it’s almost easy to forget that there’s also some refreshes that occur at the same time.  Logitech is doing their best to remind us of this with the refresh of their G series of computer gaming peripherals.  Though they are built for gamers, the peripherals should appeal to anyone who wants some extra bells and whistles with their mice, keyboards, and headsets.

The most universal of the refreshes is the new flagship keyboard for the G series, the G19.  It is the first gaming keyboard from Logitech that supports Mac as well as Windows.  It features a 320x240 LCD display at the top of the unit.  The display can show information in games that support the Game Panel software, including World of Warcraft and presumably others.  For those who aren’t gamers, it can also display media, act as a VOIP call panel and show system performance.  The keyboard also has twelve progammable buttons that can store up to three macros each.  There’s also backlighting and two USB ports.  It doesn’t came cheap though, costing $200 when it arrives in March.

Logitech is also introducing its new G35 headset which uses a Dolby Headphone algorithm to produce 7.1 channel audio.  It also has six options for voice masking which will work with the Team Speak and Ventrilo applications among others.  It will ship in March for $130.

The third update is the G9x mouse, an update to the G9.  The new version has a faster tracker that can go up to 5,000 DPI, or down to 200 DPI if desired.  It retains the same customization features as the G9 with changeable coverplates, adjustable weight and LED color options.  Its only compatible with Windows and will retail for $100 in April.

The new options from Logitech are certainly look great.  I could not help from drooling over them when I first saw them.  Well, that was until I saw the prices.
