Logitech Harmony One wins CES 2008 Design and Engineering Award

Logitech Harmony One universal remote control

Logitech Harmony One, a cutting-edge universal remote control equipped with full-color touch screen and intuitive layout, has earned the CES 2008 Design and Engineering Award: Best of Innovations in Home-Entertainment Accessories. Supported by a comprehensive consumer research combined and more than 20,000 hours of development time, this new ergonomically-designed device seeks to eliminate the growing confusion and frustration experienced by many households with multiple electronic devices.

The 2.2-inch touch screen provides activity-based control system, enabling users to touch just one activity button such as “Watch a DVD” and it will manage the entire process automatically, from turning on the TV, DVD player and the A/V receiver. With this technology, it saves you time and effort for there is no need to control your devices individually.

A subtle yet very practical improvement seen in Harmony One is its intuitive button layout. Instead of integrating so many commands on the remote control, Logitech carefully selected the 40 most essential functions to include as its buttons. To organize the controls according to home entertainment devices, you will notice Harmony One is divided in 4 major zones – numbers; traditional DVD controls; D-pad with volume and channel up/down; and on-screen menu buttons.

However, you need to shell out $250 to avail this added convenience. It will be available in major retail stores in the U.S. starting next month.
